macOS 26 Issues and Fixes: Common Problems After Update (and How to Solve Them)

Apple recently released macOS 26 Tahoe, bringing a refreshed design, AI-powered tools, and smoother integration across the Apple ecosystem. The update looks exciting on paper, but as with any major macOS release, the real experience can feel a bit bumpy once you install it.

If you’ve already upgraded, you might have noticed some unexpected issues. Don’t worry—you’re not alone. Many users have reported similar problems, and in most cases, there are simple fixes you can try before panicking.

1. Update Fails or Restarts Back to Login

What users report

Several Mac Studio and MacBook users noticed that during the upgrade, their Mac would show “less than one minute remaining” and then unexpectedly restart — only to land back on the login screen without completing the installation.

How to fix

  • Free up space: Make sure you have at least 20–25GB free before upgrading.

  • Try Recovery Mode: Boot into macOS Recovery (⌘ + R at startup) and reinstall macOS 26.

  • Disconnect accessories: External drives, hubs, or monitors can sometimes cause conflicts. Unplug them before retrying.

2. Apps Not Working Properly

What users report

  • Scriptation stopped working right after the upgrade unless updated.

  • Some Electron-based apps like VSCode and Slack show performance spikes or graphical glitches.

How to fix

  • Update your apps first: Scriptation users must update to v5.1.2 or later for compatibility.

  • Use beta builds: For apps like VSCode or Slack, the beta or “Insiders” versions often include early macOS 26 fixes.

  • Disable hardware acceleration: If you notice GPU spikes, turning off hardware acceleration in app settings may help.

3. UI and Design Complaints

What users report

On Reddit and Apple forums, many users complain about Tahoe’s new look:

  • Sidebars and windows feel misaligned.

  • Full-screen apps leave awkward gaps because of overly rounded corners.

  • Transparency effects make text harder to read in Finder and Safari.

How to fix

  • Go to System Settings > Accessibility and enable Reduce Transparency to improve readability.

  • In Safari, switch back to the Compact Tab Layout for a cleaner view.

  • Expect tweaks in macOS 26.1 and beyond — Apple often fixes UI inconsistencies in point updates.

4. Dock and Shortcuts Acting Up

What users report

Some MacBook Air M2 users noticed that Dock shortcuts or window management gestures don’t behave the same way as in macOS Sequoia.

How to fix

  • Reset the Dock: Open Terminal and run:

    defaults delete com.apple.dock killall Dock
  • Check for conflicts: If you’re using third-party window managers, update or disable them.

  • Keep your Mac updated: Early macOS versions usually smooth out with the first patches.

Introduce Zeera Aluminum Cases for Your Mac

Introduce a way to enhance your Mac mini M4 or Mac Studio experience with Zeera’s CNC aluminum cases. These cases are designed specifically for your device, offering both style and functionality:

By using these cases, you not only protect your Mac from scratches and dust but also reduce fan noise and heat, which can help your Mac run more smoothly after major system updates.

Final Thoughts

Upgrading to macOS 26 Tahoe comes with exciting features, but early bugs are normal. By trying the fixes above, you can smooth out most issues and get your Mac running reliably.

If you’re cautious, waiting for macOS 26.1 is wise—Apple usually patches most early-adopter problems in the first point release.

Device / OS: MacBook running macOS 26 (Tahoe)
Problem: Any pop-up window or menu (Wi-Fi menu, System Settings panes, etc.) opens but then automatically closes after about 3–4 seconds without any action from me.
Expected: The menu or panel should stay open until I click outside or make a selection.
Impact: I can’t change Wi-Fi networks or adjust settings because the menus disappear too quickly.
Already tried: Restarted, disconnected peripherals, safe mode — problem persists.

Test showing temperature difference of the Zeera Mac Mini M4 fan? Limited info I have found shows little temperature improvement, but reduction of Mac Mini’s own fan speed – which to me means it SHOULD be reducing the temp IF it reduces the fan speed, but temp reading in test is not showing that – ad in this story shows the Zeera
