The iPhone Duo has a capable dual 48MP camera system with Main and Ultra Wide cameras. It can also create a 12MP 2x optical-quality view by cropping the Main sensor.

What it does not have is a dedicated Telephoto camera. Digital zoom tops out at 10x.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max offers the more complete camera setup, including a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a variable-aperture 48MP Main camera.

For portraits, concerts, travel and distant subjects, that difference matters more than the Duo’s higher price might suggest.

The foldable design does create useful shooting options. The outer screen can work as a preview, and the partly folded phone can support itself for group photos or video.

Those advantages, however, do not replace a true telephoto lens.

2. A $2,000 iPhone Without Face ID

The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID.

There is a practical benefit: the sensor remains accessible whether the phone is folded or open. Some users may even prefer fingerprint authentication.

But long-time iPhone owners are used to using Face ID for unlocking, Apple Pay, passwords and app authentication. On a $1,999 device, returning to a fingerprint sensor can feel like a step backward.

The Duo is impressively thin at 5.2mm when open. Folded, it measures 11.3mm and weighs 254g.

You will notice that trade-off most while typing with one hand, using the phone in bed, carrying it in a tight pocket or attaching it to a car mount.
