Can You Still Downgrade iOS 27 to iOS 26?

No—not through Apple’s official restore process.

Apple stopped signing iOS 26.6.2 on September 21, one week after the public release of iOS 27. A signed version of iOS must pass Apple’s server-side verification before Finder on a Mac or the Apple Devices app on Windows can install it.

Now that the signature has been withdrawn, an iOS 26.6.2 IPSW file will fail verification even if you downloaded it earlier.

Why Can’t You Downgrade to iOS 26.7?

This is the confusing part. Apple released iOS 26.7 alongside iOS 27, but the iPhone version was distributed as an over-the-air update rather than a public full restore image.

An OTA package updates an iPhone that is already running iOS 26. It is not the same as an IPSW restore file that Finder or Apple Devices can use to erase an iPhone and install an earlier major version.

This applies to supported models including iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra. A newer or more expensive iPhone does not receive a separate downgrade route.

Why Did Apple Stop Signing iOS 26.6.2?

Finder or Apple Devices still contacts Apple’s server during installation. If iOS 26.6.2 is no longer signed for your device, the restore cannot complete.

Does an iOS 26 Backup Let You Go Back?

Should You Update From iOS 26 to iOS 27 Now?

If your iPhone is stable and you depend on it for work, travel, banking or content creation, there is no need to rush. Staying on iOS 26.7 for a little longer gives app developers and Apple more time to address early compatibility problems.

If you want Siri AI and the other major iOS 27 features, update only after making a complete backup and checking that your essential apps support the new system.

For an iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max or iPhone Ultra purchased with iOS 27 already installed, moving back to iOS 26 may never be supported because the older system may not contain the required device files and drivers.
