Quick Answer
Apple’s Intelligent Assistant adds natural-language help to Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
It can draft text, help with spreadsheet formulas, and generate slides and presenter notes.
The beta requires Apple Creator Studio and currently supports US English only.
Check the app version and device requirements before subscribing specifically for the assistant.
What changed in the October 22 iWork update?
MacRumors reported on October 22, 2026 that Apple added Intelligent Assistant in beta to its three productivity apps, alongside iPhone Duo support. The assistant works with the document, spreadsheet or presentation you are editing, so you can describe a task instead of starting from a blank page.
The update also brings subscriber templates or themes and curated videos in the Content Hub. App availability briefly changed during the rollout, making the current App Store listing worth checking.
What can Intelligent Assistant do in Pages, Numbers and Keynote?
Pages: draft and refine a document
Pages can help start a draft, write a section, reorganize content and adjust the tone. You can also request images or shapes and ask it to find current information for the document.
Example prompt to try: “Draft a 150-word introduction for this project proposal. Use a clear, professional tone and keep the three goals in my outline.”
This suits reports, proposals and rough drafts where you already know the purpose and audience. Giving it your outline makes the request more specific. See Apple’s Pages release notes.
Numbers: formulas, tables and chart suggestions
Numbers can help construct complex formulas, generate tables, suggest charts and identify insights in your spreadsheet. Natural-language requests let you describe the calculation you want. It can also search for current information to incorporate into a sheet.
Example prompt to try: “Help me calculate profit margin from the Revenue and Cost columns. Explain the formula and suggest a chart comparing months.”
Before applying a formula across the sheet, check its references and test a row with a known result. See Apple’s Numbers release notes.
Keynote: slides, animations and presenter notes
Keynote can generate slides, presenter notes, images and shapes from natural-language instructions. The assistant can also help refine a presentation, add animations and bring in information found on the web.
Example prompt to try: “Create a five-slide introduction to this project for a three-minute team meeting. Give each slide one main point and add short presenter notes.”
Specify your audience and speaking time, then review the story, slide density and notes before presenting. See Apple’s Keynote release notes.
These are suggested prompts based on the announced capabilities, rather than transcripts of tested results. Across all three apps, you can also ask for guidance on advanced features or start with a suggested task.
Do you need an Apple Creator Studio subscription?
Yes, for Intelligent Assistant. Ordinary document creation, viewing, editing and real-time collaboration remain free in Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
- US standard plan: $12.99 per month or $129 per year.
- Eligible college students and educators: $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, with verification.
- Trials: Apple advertises one month for new subscribers and a qualifying three-month offer with a new Mac or iPad. Offer terms apply.
Subscriptions use a personal Apple Account; Managed Apple Accounts cannot subscribe. Check Apple’s current pricing and offers for your region.
How do you get started with Intelligent Assistant?
- Update the app. Install the latest Pages, Numbers or Keynote release from the App Store and check its release notes for Intelligent Assistant.
- Check eligibility. The iPhone and iPad beta notes require an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later, with US English support.
- Confirm subscription access. Use the Apple Account associated with your Creator Studio subscription. If subscribing in the app, follow the offer shown when selecting a premium feature.
- Open your file. When the assistant is available in your installed build, use its in-app entry point and request one specific change. You can start with a suggested task.
- Refine the result. Check the draft or calculation, then ask for a narrower revision, such as shortening one section or changing a chart suggestion.
Using a Mac? Apple lists macOS 27 for full Creator Studio functionality, but app installation compatibility does not establish assistant availability. The current Mac Pages listing does not show the assistant notes found on its mobile listing. Confirm the feature appears on your Mac before paying specifically for it. See Apple’s subscription and system requirements.

What are the AI language, usage and accuracy limits?
US English beta
The assistant’s release notes specify US English. The apps’ broader interface-language support does not mean the assistant supports all those languages. Subscription access also does not remove device or regional requirements.
Generation limits are separate from assistant chat
Apple publishes monthly limits for individual generation features. If used exclusively, the stated minimums are 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 presentations of roughly 8–10 slides, or presenter notes for 700 slides. These are alternative usage examples, not four guaranteed allowances to add together.
They are not a published Intelligent Assistant message quota. Actual generation capacity varies with request complexity and service availability, and limits reset monthly.
Check usage: on Mac, choose the app’s menu → Intelligence Features → Show Usage Status. On iPhone or iPad, use More → Intelligence Features → Show Usage Status. See Apple’s intelligence-feature limits.
Review web information and generated content
Check dates and original sources for researched material, formula references for calculations, and slide details before sharing. A fluent answer can still use the wrong assumption. Keep your requests specific about units, date ranges and which parts of a file should change.
Some Creator Studio generation features use external providers, with availability varying by region. Treat the selected feature’s disclosure as the guide to how your request is processed.
If you are comparing this subscription with running models yourself, see our Mac mini local AI memory guide. Creator Studio’s app features and a local model setup have different requirements.
Is Intelligent Assistant the same as Apple Intelligence Writing Tools?
They are different features. Writing Tools already help proofread, rewrite, summarize and compose selected text on supported devices. Intelligent Assistant is the Creator Studio beta described in the new release notes, with tasks tailored to an entire document, spreadsheet or presentation.
For occasional text cleanup, try the tools you already have. The subscription becomes more interesting if you regularly need help building formulas, drafting presentations or working across several Creator Studio apps.
FAQ
What happens to my files if I cancel Creator Studio?
Apple says you retain your projects and files. Pages, Numbers and Keynote remain accessible after the subscription period ends, while subscription intelligence features become unavailable. See Apple’s cancellation details.
Is Keynote’s new .keyx format an AI subscription feature?
No. The release notes list the beta Interchange Format for importing and exporting presentations under features for everyone, separately from the subscriber assistant.
